The Egyptians thought that the force that moved the Sun across the sky was a giant scarab beetle god, Khepri.
They believe that the Sun was what is known as the eye of Ra, which was Ra’s chariot or his flying machine. Was the scarab- headed god, Khepri, and the scarab represented Khepri, the pilot, if you like, of Ra’s Sun ship or barge. He was basically a pilot to the gods. But could there be another explanation for why the Egyptians regarded Khepri as a pilot?
