This is the legacy of Faraday. This is where Faraday’s vision of fields has taken us. There are no particles in the world. The basic fundamental building blocks of our universe are these fluid-like substances that we call fields.
So what I want to do in the rest of this talk is tell you where that vision takes us. I want to tell you about what it means that we’re not made of particles. We’re made of fields.
The best theories we have tell us that the fundamental building blocks of nature are not particles, but something much more nebulous and abstract. The fundamental building blocks of nature are fluid-like substances which are spread throughout the entire universe.
That’s the fundamental reality.
